Just a little bit about Something Special

H ere at Something Special American Bulldog  Kennel we are shiner breeding for medium to large predominately JDJ bulldogs that excel in health, temperament, athleticism and working ability without losing the BULLDOG look. If I am going to have a bulldog I certainly want my dog to look like one. I have owned or bred some type of bull breed my entire life. I was raised with boxers and bred APBT's for several years. Having run the gambit of bull breeds I'll have to say this is my favorite because of the dedication, athleticism & loyalty of these bulldogs. I acquired my first (of many) American Bulldogs in 1986 and immediately fell in LOVE with this breed, they are the BEST all around breed of bulldog or any breed of dog as far as I am concerned. You could not ask for a better family pet/home guardian, if trained properly they also do very well in Schutzhund, Ring Sport, Weight Pull, as well as being a natural born farm utility Catch Dog. I concentrate my breeding efforts on producing a nice bully dog that is sound in every aspect. In my opinion the perfect bully American Bulldog female is between 80-95 lbs. & a nice size for a bully male is 90- 105 lbs. A bit smaller or larger than these weights does not make a difference. What is more important is the temperament & willingness for the dog to do well in whatever you ask of him/her, a.k.a., the dogs working abilities! My personal preference is 7/8-15/16 Johnson with a Painter outcross. I firmly believe this outcross makes all the difference in the health, drive & athleticism of the dogs. I also like to keep as much of the JDJ line in my dogs as possible. I am not trying to recreate this breed or create my own line of American Bulldogs, I am trying to improve what we already have through selective breeding.

I am very proud of the dogs produced by Something Special American Bulldogs thus far. We will continue to try to produce the same high quality dogs for the advancement of the breed that our customers & we are so proud of. This is why we only produce 2-4 litters of pups a year, in order to give them the socialization they need and to evaluate each & every puppy. An American Bulldog can and should be anything you want/train it to be, family pet/companion, Show & Catch Dog, Ring Sport or Schutzhund. It is the all around bull breed.

Something Special has been actively involved in promoting this great breed & supporting AB shows & events since 1994. We have been involved with several clubs & organizations over the years. We are also a Charter Member of The Heart of Dixie American Bulldog Club, and have helped sponsor & organize the ABNA shows held in Birmingham AL February 1999 & Cartersville GA March 2000. We support all organizations that promote shows and working events for American Bulldog, PEOPLE & DOGS.

In closing I would like to add there are many good sites with historical and health information as well as many other American Bulldog Kennels. I have links to some of the best sources of the working bully AB's, and most informative sites in my "Love them American Bulldog Links". From here you can get to just about every site having anything to do with American Bulldogs. It is IMPORTANT to do your research on the breeders as well as the dogs. Find one that you are comfortable with and one that will not hesitate to answer any and ALL questions you might have.

Thanks so much for visiting; I would like to thank my son Casey for designing my web site for me. GREAT job! Also if you are wondering how we got our kennel name, All American Bulldogs are "Something Special" to me.

Enjoy my site & my dogs!
